Omicron is a Covid-19 variant that is sweeping the UK. The government has introduced Plan B to try and tackle the spread of this new strain of coronavirus. Here’s all you need to know.<\/p>\n

Before we get onto Plan B, let’s first find out what Omicron is.<\/p>\n

What is Omicron?<\/h2>\n

Omicron is the latest strain of Covid-19 to sweep across the country. The first case of Omicron was identified in South Africa on November 24, 2021 and was identified by the World Health Organisation as a ‘variant of concern’ just two days later.<\/p>\n

The reason for this was because its highly mutated nature means its more transmissible than other variants. It is now believed to be the most common strain in the UK, and the symptoms are more like that of a cold than other types of Covid-19. Unlike previous mutations, whereby a loss of sense or smell were the giveaway signs, these symptoms might not be present with Omicron.<\/p>\n
