There are just 73 days left until Christmas – meaning it won’t be long before the inevitable festive madness begins and you can’t move for people asking if you’ve started the Christmas shopping.

It’s not just consumers who get caught up in the Christmas rush though, if you’re travelling by train to visit clients or conduct meetings in December, you could be hit hard in the pocket unless you sort out your rail travel soon.

Analysis from Trainline estimates travellers will overspend on train tickets by a stocking-stifling £4 million this festive period, and are encouraging everyone to save money by making their bookings early this year.

Are you a loyal customer? Once you find a product or service you’re happy with, do you stick with it, keeping with what you know and like?

Well what would you do if you’d been using a service for a while, you were happy with it and had no complaints and then suddenly, overnight, it put its prices up?

What if it not only put its prices up, it increased them by almost half?

You’d probably not be happy and might even consider looking around for a comparable yet  more cost-effective service.

Liechtenstein is a haven for UK-based tax dodgers – although HMRC is working hard to put a stop to the practice via a tax disclosure ‘opportunity’ that enables anyone who confesses to hiding money in the tax haven will only have to pay 10% of the tax owed.

In addition to the 10% penalty though, people will still have to pay tax, plus interest, going back as far as the last 10 years, so the final tax bill could still be hefty even though the 10% penalty limit sounds generous.

Since the scheme began more than 2,400 people have come forward to pay an extra £363 million in tax and penalties.

And HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) expects this figure to rise to £3bn by 2016, significantly more than the £1bn initially expected.

UK authorities estimate around 5,000 UK taxpayers have had money hidden in Liechtenstein – going back generations, in some cases – and co-operation between the UK and Liechtenstein authorities has now been strengthened by the signing, for the first time, of a formal double-taxation agreement between the two counties.

If you’ve business interests in Liechtenstein, you’ll want a low-cost and reliable teleconference, or conference call, provider – here’s how to quickly and easily set up a call between UK and Liechtenstein, using nothing more than a mobile or landline.

Player transfers are a major part of professional football – £835 million was spent by Premier League clubs in  the last transfer window – and so it’s surprising to hear that one of the world’s biggest football clubs has announced it’s unlikely to be doing any business during the next window.

Even more surprising when you hear it was announced to investors and, in turn, the world, via an international conference call.

Yesterday we looked at hold music and whether or not you require a licence to play it.

Today we stumbled across some top pop music based on making a conference call and being stuck on hold. It could be metaphorical, it could be literal, but who cares when it sounds this good?

Want to hear it? Of course you do…

A futureologist at BT (yes, such a position actually exists, crystal ball skills a bonus) believes the office-based nine-to-five will soon become a thing of the past as we have now reached the point whereby those in “knowledge-based” professions can effectively do their jobs with little more than a computer, phone and internet connection.
